After a record setting career at Central Michigan, graduated forward David DiLeo has found the destination for the start of his professional career. It was announced early Monday morning that DiLeo has agreed to a contract with UCAM Murcia, a basketball club in Spain's top professional basketball division, Liga ACB. The news was announced by the club's official Instagram page.
UCAM Murcia is based in Murcia, Spain and played its first season in 1985. The team has had severable notable players who have gone on to play in the NBA, notably Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic and Utah Jazz forward Bojan Bogdanovic. The team is coached by Sito Alonso and currently boasts former NBA Players Peter Jok and Alex Antetokounmpo.
DiLeo heads overseas after a historic four-year career at Central Michigan. He played in 135 games, starting 103 and scored a total of 1,604 points. He departs as both the Chippewas' and Mid-American Conference all-time leader in made 3-pointers, passing former teammate Josh Kozinski late in his senior season.
DiLeo also ranks in the school's top 10 in a variety of other categories, including free throw percentage (fifth), rebounds (seventh), and points (eighth). He earned Honorable Mention All-MAC honors following his senior season and was named Second Team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
The Iowa City native finished his career as a 38-percent shooter from beyond the arc and an 82-percent shooter at the free throw line. Before coming to Central Michigan, he was a two-time basketball state champion at Iowa City West high school in addition to being a state doubles champion in tennis. He spent a season at the New Hampton School in New Hampshire after graduating from Iowa City West before coming to the Chippewas.
