Central Michigan won't play Alabama as scheduled in 2023. Instead, it will take on an in-state foe.
On Wednesday, Central Michigan announced a three-game series against Michigan State. The first matchup in that series, scheduled for September 2, 2023, will take the place of the scheduled game against Alabama. The other two scheduled matchups will take place on September 11, 2027 and August 31, 2030. All three games will be played in Spartan Stadium.
Historically, the Chippewas hold a 3-8 record against the Spartans. The last time these teams met, Michigan State defeated the Chippewas 30-10 in 2018. Central Michigan last knocked off the Spartans in 2009 with its 29-27 last second victory. 10 of the 11 games between the two have been played in East Lansing, with the Chippewas' lone home game in the series coming in 2012.
The 2023 and 2030 matchups will be the Chippewas' respective season openers, while the 2027 matchup will come after a matchup at Wyoming scheduled for September 4.
